Volunteering at Roskilde Festival with Connecting Worlds DK
Got questions? We’ve got answers! Whether it’s shifts, perks, camping, or more, this FAQ is here to guide you before and during the event. Thanks for volunteering-we are looking forward to a great festival with you!
Overview of the festival
1. What is Roskilde Festival?
Roskilde Festival is Northern Europe’s biggest music and arts festival, going strong since 1971. Every year, around 30,000 volunteers help make it happen, taking care of everything from security to building stages. It’s all organized by the Roskilde Festival Charity Society, a non-profit that donates the festival’s profits to cultural and humanitarian projects for children and young people around the world.
2. Where and when does the festival take place?
RF takes place on the Festival Site, outside the town of Roskilde, 35 km from Copenhagen, between June 28 – July 6, 2025.
3. What is Connecting Worlds?
It is a volunteering association run by DTU students and alumni. Our main goal is to provide a true Danish experience to international students by volunteering at the festival. Through this, we aim to foster cultural exchange, create lasting friendships, and offer a unique opportunity to be part of one of Denmark’s biggest events while gaining valuable teamwork and organizational skills.
Volunteering 101
4. What means being a volunteer with Connecting Worlds?
By volunteering with our team, you will be working at one of the main entrances of the festival. Your main task will be checking tickets, making sure everything runs smoothly. Shifts are 8 hours with a break, and you’ll get food vouchers and drinks to keep you going. It’s a fun way to experience the festival while helping out!
5. Which benefits do I have as a volunteer?
As a volunteer, you’ll get some awesome perks, including:
- 🎟️ Free festival access – Enjoy the festival when you're off duty!
- 🍔 Food & drinks – Get vouchers to keep you fueled during your shift.
- ⛺ Calm volunteer camping – Stay in a dedicated area with a more relaxed vibe.
- 🏕️ Volunteer Village – A special area just for volunteers to hang out and relax.
- 🚿 Hot showers – Enjoy access to proper showers (a luxury at festivals!).
- 👕 Free print on any clothing item – Customize your favorite festival outfit!
- 👯♂️ Meet new people – Connect with fellow volunteers and make new friends.
- 💪 Work experience – Gain teamwork and event management skills for your CV.
6. How many shifts do I have to work?
You must work a total of four shifts: one night shift, one morning shift, and one evening shift. The fourth shift can be any of these three options. Shifts are 8 hours + 30 minutes break. Each day has three shifts:
- Morning: 06:45 – 15:15
- Evening: 14:45 – 23:15
- Night: 22:45 – 07:15 (next day)
The first shift starts 06:45 on Sat, June the 28th. The last shift finishes 15:15 on Sun, July the 6th.
7. What should I do to prepare for my shift?
Volunteering at the festival is a great experience, but a little preparation can make your shift even better. Here are some tips to help you have a smooth and enjoyable time:
- Dress comfortably – Wear practical shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
- Stay hydrated – Bring a refillable water bottle to keep yourself energized.
- Bring your own food – While you’ll get some drinks, it's a good idea to pack snacks or a meal.
- Arrive on time – Being punctual helps everything run smoothly.
- Bring a good attitude – A positive mindset makes the shift more enjoyable.
- Pack layers – The weather can be unpredictable, so having an extra hoodie can help.
- Get to know your team – It’s a great way to meet new people and make the shift more fun.
8. What happens if I can’t complete my volunteer shifts?
If an emergency arises, please notify us as soon as possible by filling this form: https://sick.connectingworlds.dk. Failing to complete your shifts without prior notice will result in losing your festival wristband and impact future volunteering opportunities.
Camping basics
9. How to camp?
Camping is part of the Roskilde experience! As a volunteer you can access Volunteering Camping, which we recommend as it is a quiet place with hot showers. To access it you must book a spot beforehand, we’ll inform you when the camping is opening a few days before through our communications channels, so keep an eye out for the information.
Booking for Volunteer Camping opens May 1st. You will find a booking guide on our Instagram page @connectingworldsdk. For more information, check out Roskilde Festival’s website: Volunteer Camping – Roskilde Festival
Important: Everyone who wants to access Volunteer Camping needs to book it. So even if you’re staying in your friend's tent, you still need to book it yourself.
As an alternative, you can also just camp in the “normal” camping with the guests – no booking needed!
10. Do I need to bring my own tent?
Yes! If you don’t already have a tent, you can either buy one yourself or rent it for a fee from the festival. Feel free to use our WhatsApp group to find others to share the tent with!
11. What equipment should I bring to camp?
Some useful equipment to consider is:
- A durable tent with proper stakes.
- A sleeping bag and sleeping pad for comfort.
- A flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries.
- Camping stove or portable cooking gear (if needed).
- Earplugs and an eye mask for better sleep.
- Power bank to keep your devices charged.
